Meeting the Moment: Powering Global Growth Through Innovation

At Passport, we believe international expansion shouldn’t come with trade-offs. This year, we doubled down on solving the most persistent pain points our customers face when selling across borders because even the best global strategies can fall short without the right infrastructure behind them.

From conversion-killing surprises at checkout to clunky post-purchase experiences, the friction in cross-border ecommerce is real. That’s why we’ve invested in features that make internationalization seamless—regardless of what platform you’re on or how your storefront is built.

These latest updates reflect what we’ve heard from our customers: they want more control, more transparency, and more ways to build trust with global shoppers. Whether you’re a scaling brand on BigCommerce, a Shopify Plus merchant with custom needs, or running a fully headless experience, our products are evolving to meet you where you are.

From accurate landed costs that factor in discount codes, to a new internationalization toolkit for custom sites, to automation in our sortation hubs that improves delivery timelines—every feature released this year is focused on making global growth easier, faster, and more profitable.

Let’s take a look at what’s new.

Internationalization Toolkit for Custom and Headless Sites

Passport’s new API and SDK toolkit brings our full internationalization capabilities to brands with custom-built or headless ecommerce sites. Designed for enterprise teams, it enables localized, high-converting shopping experiences—without relying on third-party middleware.

What this enables:

Create personalized, localized shopping experiences
Use geolocation detection to tailor homepage content, pre-fill shipping fields, and localize the user journey from first click to checkout.

Show prices that shoppers understand and trust
Display local currency and region-specific pricing, including duty- and tax-inclusive totals to improve transparency and conversion.

Reduce cart abandonment with real-time landed cost
Automatically calculate and display duties and taxes at checkout—so customers see the true total before they buy.

Offer smarter, more cost-effective shipping options
Surface live, optimized international shipping rates that balance cost and delivery speed based on the shopper’s destination.

BigCommerce and WooCommerce Now Supported

Passport’s internationalization capabilities are now available to brands on BigCommerce and WooCommerce, enabling them to access the same end-to-end global solution trusted by leading Shopify merchants.

This update makes it easier for brands to grow internationally without creating new entities or managing complex tax, customs, and compliance requirements on their own.

Key features for these platforms include:

  • Accelerate international sales with expert guidance tailored to your brand
Through our International Growth Advisory, you get one-on-one support on marketing, pricing, and localization strategies.
  • Boost conversion by delivering a localized shopping experience
Geo-based pricing and local currency display are built directly into your site experience.
  • Build trust at checkout by showing shoppers exactly what they’ll pay
Real-time in-cart duties and tax calculation provides price transparency at the moment of purchase.
  • Expand globally with confidence, knowing you’re meeting legal and tax requirements
Backed by our regulatory compliance reviews and cross-border expertise.
  • Delight international customers with a consistent post-purchase experience
Branded tracking and global customer support reflect your brand at every step.
  • Offer flexible delivery options to fit your customers and your margins
With support for both Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) and Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) shipping models.

Smarter Checkout for Shopify: Accurate Landed Costs with Discounts

Shopify’s native checkout logic doesn’t always account for discount codes when calculating duties and taxes. That means international customers can end up seeing inflated landed costs—hurting trust and conversion.

We’ve solved this with two solutions:

  • For Shopify Plus stores
A Checkout Extension that re-triggers the shipping rate request after the discount is applied—ensuring duties and taxes are calculated on the actual price paid.
  • For non-Plus stores
A webhook-based solution that updates landed cost quotes in real time for most sessions. This approach covers the majority of scenarios, especially since only a small percentage of orders typically exceed the duty threshold.

These updates provide international customers with accurate, up-to-date costs at checkout—even when using a promotion.

Shopify Plus Extension: Tax ID Collection at Checkout

For certain international destinations, collecting a customer’s Tax ID at checkout can reduce customs delays and improve delivery success. Passport now offers a Shopify Checkout UI Extension that makes this process seamless for both shoppers and brands.

Key functionality includes:

  • Displays only when required
The Tax ID field appears only for destinations where it’s commonly needed—such as Argentina, Chile, India, Israel, and Norway—creating a localized experience without disrupting checkout.
  • No development work required
The extension takes less than a minute to enable and test. We’ll handle setup—no technical lift needed from your team.
  • Improves compliance and delivery rates
Collected Tax IDs are automatically passed to major carriers, reducing the likelihood of post-purchase interruptions or failed deliveries.

Note: Shopify already supports automatic Tax ID fields for Brazil, China, Mexico, and South Korea. This extension fills the gap for more than 10 additional countries where Tax ID collection is recommended or required.

Localized Branded Tracking Pages

We’ve expanded Passport’s branded tracking experience to support full localization—helping brands deliver a more relevant and consistent post-purchase experience for international customers.

Key capabilities include:

  • Localized marketing content by destination
Customize banner images, messaging, call-to-actions, and URLs based on the package’s destination country or region (such as the EU).
  • Display logic based on delivery location—not browser location
International customers see the right content, no matter where they placed the order.
  • Fallback settings for global coverage
Default designs automatically apply when no custom content is configured for a particular country, ensuring seamless coverage.

This update supports stronger post-purchase engagement, enhances brand consistency across markets, and helps your tracking experience feel native to every customer.

Enhanced Filter and Table Views in the Passport Portal

We’ve upgraded the filter and table view experience inside the Passport Portal to help teams find key shipment data faster and work more efficiently.

What’s new:

  • Customizable table layouts
Choose exactly which columns you want to see and drag to reorder—so your workspace matches your workflow.
  • Searchable filters
Quickly locate values within dropdowns using built-in search, eliminating the need to scroll through long lists.
  • Saved filter views (coming soon)
Save and bookmark your preferred filter combinations for faster access and consistent reporting.

These enhancements give operations and logistics teams more flexibility and control when managing high-volume international shipments.

Bulk Label Printing for 3PLs

We’ve streamlined the label creation process for warehouse teams by enabling carrier labels to be generated in bulk from a single shipment entry.

When a shipment includes several identical boxes or skids, warehouse staff can now enter the quantity once in the shipment form and generate all required labels in one step. This reduces repetitive data entry and speeds up processing for high-volume orders.

Warehouse Automation at Key Passport Hubs

We’ve introduced automation systems at Passport’s major U.S. sortation hubs—EWR, ONT, and ORD—to improve parcel processing speed, accuracy, and overall network resilience.

Operational benefits include:

  • Faster processing times
Automation increases throughput from roughly 100–200 packages per hour to 400–500, helping accelerate delivery timelines.
  • Lower costs and more predictable delivery
Automated scanning, weighing, and labeling reduce manual steps and improve cost efficiency.
  • Improved tracking and reconciliation
Each parcel is scanned and dimensioned, creating a clear link between first-mile tracking codes and final shipments.
  • Enhanced billing accuracy and performance tracking
Automation improves data capture for non-standard shipments and enables smarter warehouse performance monitoring.

These upgrades are part of our long-term commitment to building a resilient and efficient cross-border logistics network that scales with your brand.
